I want to use a secondary. Going all necro is kind of boring... -.-

I see so many people go Blood/Curses it's not even funny.

I can always switch back to blood anyway. I just need a secondary to coincide with curses and provide healing since I will be giving up the blood line.

Combine Shield of Regeneration with Signet of Health excellent self heal and no -40 armor loss due to one having +40 armor while activated (sor)

Throw 9pts into protection skill and you're all set.

Thing is time you take a rez sig, some form of either sprint or cripple, 1 or 2 heals, you're down to only 4 attack skills, then if you want to use some stances and enchantments, reduced even more.

Takes a lot of experimentation to come up with an excellent dps build and self heal as well. I don't use signet of health in pvp though because it has such a long cast time. And I only use one form of hp regain skill anyways. In PVE when soloing and such though I will use all kinds of combos.

Just my 2c but orison and breeze...ya breeze gets dogged for many good reasons but as a necro when your opponent sees your health going up again they get a bit dismayed. Ive tanked many a warrior ..albeit cuz I have like 3 life syphons and a couple parasitic bonds up and used weakness on him =] but giving up blood I see your desire for some health to return. Use Parasitic bond for spike heals..albeit 20 sec later or if its removed. Breeze to have some pips of regen and maybe orison for the 50+ healing spike. Just a suggestion to try out but Im one of those blood/curse fans...or blood/curse/dom for hex breaker lol I love that stance :-)

Did you assume this was for a W/Mo? Because its for a necro primary.

I don't have healing touch btw that is why I said breeze and some smiters only use that to heal themselves up nothing alse. The only other one is Orisons but being Necro I would stick to Necro skills.

why is self healing such a concern? shouldn't a monk be healing you? if you need something to heal you, get alesia.

Most of my pve characters don't use self-healing. I don't really see it as a major concern, because any decent monk should be able to heal you effectively. Additionally, they'll probably be standing right next to you, as you play support with a necro.

Necros often tell me not to heal them, when they sacrifice health to heal minions. Don't know why. A really smart necro asks the monk to bring heal area with him/her
I have heard that monk spells have a negative effect on minions. Does anybody know? Every time when I see a necro neglecting the minions, I resist the urge to cast some healing on them. I wished that "Heal All" worked on minions and pets too, if it hasn't any negative effect on the minions. That would be awesome.

First of all, I'd say that Heal Area is the self-heal of choice for a curse necro. At 8 healing, you'll get 110 heal for 10 energy, all you got to do is make sure you don't stand next to a damaged enemy when using it.

However, if you're not being spiked, then Healing Breeze is nice: at healing prayer 8, you get 6 pips of healing = 120 points of healing, plus it doubles as a cover enchant. The downside of healing breeze is 1 second cast (mobs *will* interrupt), that it's useless against spike damage, and that it's an enchant and so can be stripped/shattered.

Healing Breeze = Enchantment therefore it is weaker than troll unguent immediately.

I would say troll unguent but like all skills in some situations it is not desirable. I am comfortable with it though and used to it. Choose something 'you are' good with and complements your current build.

Back on topic.

As a necro primary I always use blood. Blood and curses or blood and death. My secondary is mesmer. (think SS and backfire) Blood attribute has some good self heals, both spike and over time. Just my choice, but seems to work well for me (PvE).

This is not true. Heal them all you want. Even (especially) if a MM is shouting at you not to.

Sorry, but when the MM doesn't want me to heal them , I'd rather not waste my precious energy on them. It wouldn't be the first time that I've been killed by necro minions

I've noticed that Alesia heals my minions. If a monk wants to heal them, that's fine with me but I think a good MM should be capable of tending his own flock.

BTW .... can another necro heal *your* minions with Veratta's or Blood of the Master?

According to the skill description; yes. You can certainly 'Taste of Death' your friends minions to annoy him.

Blood fr necros is the best! for monks , personally i like mark ofprotection (elite, monk protection spell, 10 e)
for 10 secs dmg on you is cancelled and turns into healing. so ifyou got a pissd offwarior on you back, cast it and stadthere and let him heal you! but it is an elite. so ifyou want SS you cant have it...

what's all this about minion masters? he just said he was a necro, he didn't say what the build was...

verata's sacrifice, heal area, etc are all great for healing minions, but i don't see why it's such a pressing concern to heal self. I stand by my earlier post, let the monk worry about healing, you worry about blood spiking/cursing/minion mastering.

>Thinking of changing Necromancer's secondary for a self healing skill with about 9 to 10 in the attribute. What would be the best self-heal as a secondary profession?

This is what I'm think so far:
Monks' Orison of Healing (5 energy, 1 cast, 2 recharge) relatively low heal
Monks' Heal Party (15 energy , 2 cast, 0 recharge) relatively low, but heals everyone in party
Monks' Healing Touch <-- totally not viable for nonmonk
Monks' Heal Area (10 energy, 1 cast, 5 recharge) relatively high heal for the cost but heals enemies also

Mesmers' Ether Feast (5 energy, 2 cast, 8 recharge)

Warriors' Healing Signet (0 energy, 2 cast, 4 recharge) -40 Armor while using

Rangers' Troll Unguent (5 energy, 3 cast, 10 recharge) a bad idea since it heals only degen effectively.<

Is this the only options you are giving us? If so, then you have limited people to a lot of healing powers. For self-healing, the monk is the best hands down. Then Ranger, then warrior. Ether Feast is slow, and weak. Healing Signet is only good if you need health fast and there is no monsters around.

Devine Boon + OoH gives a lot of healing at a cost of 7 energy per cast. Each spell you cast on yourself or ally gives you health and -2 energy. This is not an energy degeration cost, just a straight -2 energy per casting. Life Syphon an enemy will help you vs health degen, but since you are going curses, healing breeze or mending will work fine. You have order of blood or you can use a blessed signet to give you more energy. WoH is good as is Mark of Protection or Healing Hands. (MoP and HH and WoH are elites).

Rangers have 3 healings, Healing Spring (easily disrupted but heals nicely when done), Combine Weakness + Parasitic Bond (or whatever it is that gives you health when foe attacks) + troll ungeant + serpent of quickness will give you a lot of health (SoQ will allow Troll Ungeant to recharge faster than the 10 seconds, so you can continually heal fast). There is a spirit from the beast mastery skill set that lowers healing, but each time you hit a foe, you gain health (not steal health).

Warriors have 2 heals, healing signet (2 seconds to use and -40 armor vs ALL) and endure pain (temporarily gives health). When you need health desparately, none of these will help you.

Elementalists can cast aura of restoration, and all spells you cast allows you to heal, but the problem is it isn't nearly enough healling to do anything for you.

Bottom line, monk is the best for self-healing in my opinion. You don't need any points for Divine Boon or Blessed Signet for them to be useful. But you do need to make sure that you have energy to heal and cast spells.

Hope this helps.
